The First Version, Original – Write Your Own Short Story in the Comments Below

Walking on the path, she parts the large leaf out of the way to see. The view in the distance is grand and promising. Coming here reminds her that from the natural landscapes, cities that never existed, made from materials that don’t grow naturally from the earth can be created and rise up out of seemingly no where and be as if they were always there. Who thought of this before the first city was ever born or was it the natural course to arrive at this in the way that each step a person takes naturally leads them to the next? Implying that even this view is only a step along the way, a way that never ends. Anything is possible. Returning back to Base Camp; some pop up tent city in the middle of no where, with clarity and a level head she got back to the task at hand, helping others. After nearly two years of various volunteer programs that pay, she almost has enough to begin her dream company, a non-profit that will clean water and provide jobs to many in need. Really it’s been twenty-two months and with this last assignment, there’s still four months left instead of two but it’s important not to pay attention to that as it slows down time and makes the goal that much farther away. Three months later, the steady grove of clarity and purpose was broken by officials coming out to shut down the organization with labels of illegal practice and heavy fines. There was some incomplete paperwork and some issues with translation that dared to mar the philanthropic goals of this innocent endeavor and worst take away the financial compensation that many volunteers from poor background were told they would receive and despite how meager it was, were depending on to aid them in their personal issues. Every story is different. You never really know what people are dealing with and many here doing this type of work aren’t just idealistic and privileged. For some, it’s a way to prevent homelessness while they are in-between jobs, for others, a step in the right direction for the career and subsequently the life of their dreams, and yet others, it’s a way out of debt or to turn around a bad reputation created from poor choices and negative influences. She is here because he believes in something. A choice that only individual people can make. A choice that individual people have to make. Without stable income, any type of support or even a clear path already made , tried and true by someone else, the hope of the compensation would help her to create something that decreases the need for people to need help to live the life they want. One step closer to having the basic things that they need is one step closer to being able to have the things to create the life they want. Thankfully the skills amongst the volunteers were plentiful. They got the translations corrected which allowed for the paperwork to be updated. The correct documentation was sent to make a complete file. To everyone’s relief, the work continued. A huge party was celebrated the last week of the assignment. It wasn’t the usual ready to go home and stop working endlessly but one of triumph and comradeship. A war waged to create good in the world always held back by some indifferent group that finds ways to justify putting a stop to those who are aiding others but never to stop those who are negatively impacting many. It was the joy of people coming together using their skills to further a cause that will aid so many. They won this one and were closer together for it. Ayia went to her spot in the woods one last time to view what impossible looks like and left her last volunteer assignment to embark on her next journey to create an international non-profit business to provide jobs by cleaning major water sources that support whole communities. (This short story is now to be rewritten about 50 times.)
